Last year tested people like no other, but what great ingenuity and resilience has shone through from so many inspirational individuals to weather the storm.
Adversity is a state with which those involved in charities are used to managing, as none of us can know what could change our lives in a split second. What incredible stories of courage, fortitude and hope we witnessed this past year, like Captain Sir Tom Moore, Tobias Weller and the thousands of front-line workers across so many areas of society. Unsung heroes are everywhere, spreading their love, support and hope in everything they do.
Like many businesses, at Charisma we had to dig deep to find ways to help our clients not only with their need to recruit new charity leaders, managers and trustees, but also to learn how others are overcoming obstacles in their day-to-day operation, to best serve their beneficiaries. With our strict policy on ethical recruitment with equality, diversity and inclusion at the forefront of all our operations, our team has worked with many national, regional and local charities including hospices, art & culture, international relief, health & well-being, mental health, youth and disability charities throughout the last 12 months. We have supported organisations through each ‘virtual’ recruitment process, which has been a challenge for some, to ensure that successful appointments are made despite restrictions imposed.
Whilst charities which largely relied on their ongoing income from corporates, events and retail sources have struggled during the year, many have found new and innovative ways to engage with their donors and beneficiaries through their on-line activities.
Through setting up and hosting ’Charisma Conversations’ webinars during 2020, delegates have enjoyed presentations from well-known charity professionals on fundraising, governance, investments & risk, as well as human resource management. More inspirational webinars are planned for the next few months until we can meet face-to-face again, commencing with a much-needed January topic to boost your mood! ‘Lead & Inspire in 2021’ will be presented on 14 January by award-winning motivational speaker, former RAF fast jet pilot, Mandy Hickson, so register as soon as you can –
We are delighted to announce that Adam Stacey will become a Director of Charisma from January 2021 to work alongside me in the strategic development of our work. In addition, in September 2020, we welcomed Katherine Anderson-Scott to our team of Consultants, who brings a background in arts, culture, heritage, and museums sectors. We have also been forging valuable partnerships through the last 12 months with other charity sector leaders and we look forward to formalising a number of these this year, so that together we can offer further insight and expertise to the sector.
The year 2020 has shown, more than ever, how individuals wishing to consider a career change have benefitted from Charisma’s informal, confidential chats during our on-line Career Clinics. These sessions are free and can be arranged at short notice, as required.
So, despite continuing uncertainty in the early part of 2021, and unknown challenges ahead, our team at Charisma is ready to support individuals working in, or representing, the sector in any way that they can. Contact us via firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 01962 813300 or 0207 998 8888 and look at our website www.charismarecruitment.co.uk to find out more.
Happy New Year!
