A Successful CEO Appointment - The Royal Photographic Society

The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) is one of the world’s oldest photographic societies. With a new HQ in Bristol, and a new Royal Patron, The Duchess of Cambridge, the RPS have laid the foundation for widening the opportunity for educational engagement with the public and reinforcing their place in the world of photography.

With a new HQ in Bristol, and a new Royal Patron, The Duchess of Cambridge, the RPS have laid the foundation for widening the opportunity for educational engagement with the public and reinforcing their place in the world of photography. The RPS appointed Charisma to find an exceptional leader to bring fresh vision, drive and passion to realise the strategy of increased engagement and a deeper understanding of the power of photography.

UNDERSTANDING THE ROLE

The RPS was at a pivotal point in its history, following changes on the Board and an uncertain economic climate.

 The new CEO needed to:
· Manage change whilst developing and leading the strategic direction 
of the Society to ensure its ongoing success
· Embrace the talents of the committed staff team to ensure continuity of services to the loyal members
· Demonstrate strong business acumen and experience of leading a membership body

OUR APPROACH

Charisma consulted with trustees and staff to understand the ambitious plans of the organisation and to listen to their concerns. Finding an individual who would bring a fresh approach to reflect the changing nature of their membership, to embrace diversity and ensure sustainability in its growth strategy, were key elements of our search.

A structured search campaign was planned and agreed with the RPS, as well as using both the RPS and Charisma’s social media channels to complement the national advertising campaign. Our research team was briefed to identify potential individuals who clearly demonstrated exceptional qualities to succeed in this high profile role.
