Case Study: Solent Mind and Mayfield Nurseries

At Charisma Charity Recruitment, we are committed to finding the right people for the right roles. We believe that a strong partnership between a charity and its trustees is essential for success in achieving its mission. That's why we were thrilled to be appointed by Solent Mind and Mayfield Nurseries to search for new trustees.

Our primary objective was to look for individuals who could bring a range of skills and experience to the board tables. For Solent Mind, we were tasked with searching for people with governance, audit & risk, business development, campaigning and digital services expertise. On the other hand, we were asked to find individuals who displayed strong governance skills, clear and focused leadership ability, clarity of vision as well as a love of horticulture for the role of Chair of Mayfield Nurseries.

In addition to these qualifications, we knew that 'lived experience' or an understanding of mental health issues was desirable. We understood that genuine empathy for the work of both charities was also essential.

We embarked on a comprehensive recruitment process that resulted in an impressive shortlist of suitable candidates who closely met our briefs. The Board had many highly appointable candidates from which they had to choose.

However, rather than limiting themselves just to filling the required positions on their boards, Solent Mind and Mayfield Nurseries decided to take things one step further. They appointed six trustees plus a chair - more than what our original brief required!

We couldn't have been happier with this outcome as it allowed us not only to capture knowledge but also expertise from these individuals who could bring so much value to both charities.

We believe there is no such thing as too much talent when it comes to charitable organisations. The more talented people you have working towards your cause, the better your chances are at achieving your goals. The appointment process was rigorous and thorough - the candidates underwent a series of interviews, and we provided the Board with detailed assessments of each individual. But in the end, it was worth it because Solent Mind and Mayfield Nurseries got exactly what they were looking for. We were delighted to received this feedback:

"You have clearly taken great care with the process, and conveyed real enthusiasm for the roles to the potential candidates, which makes a huge difference. I have already commended the work of the team to colleagues! We certainly wouldn’t have had such a good range of people to choose from without the hard work of you and your team and your careful listening to and application of our specification."

At Charisma Charity Recruitment, we are proud to have played a significant role in this recruitment process. We believe that the right talent can make all the difference in creating a successful partnership between a charity and its trustees. We hope to continue making a positive impact for charities by providing them with top-notch talent that can help them achieve their missions.
