How Charisma helped London City Mission build a team that transforms lives

22 hires and counting, one trusted partner. Here is how Charisma helped London City Mission build a team that is changing lives across London.

London City Mission (LCM) exists to share the good news of Jesus with the people of London, serving some of the city's most marginalised communities. It is bold, compassionate work, and it requires a team that genuinely believes in the mission. Finding those people, again and again, across a wide range of roles, is exactly the kind of challenge Charisma was built for.

Our partnership with LCM is one we are particularly proud of. Over the course of several years, we have supported them in making 22 successful hires across leadership, fundraising, communications, engagement, and operations. Each placement has been thoughtfully made, with a clear understanding of what LCM stands for and the kind of people who will thrive there.

A partnership built on trust

When an organisation like LCM comes to Charisma, they are not simply looking for someone to fill a vacancy. They need a recruitment partner who understands their culture, their values, and the very specific demands of working in a faith-based environment. From our very first placement, that is what we set out to provide.

Over time, that relationship has deepened. We have come to know LCM well, and that knowledge makes every search more effective. We are not starting from scratch each time. We understand who they are, what they need, and the kind of candidate who will not just perform well in the role but genuinely flourish within the organisation.

The roles we have filled

The breadth of our work with LCM tells its own story. Across more than two dozen placements, we have supported hiring at every level and across almost every function.

At a leadership level, we have recruited the Head of Fundraising, Head of Major Gifts, and Head of Communications. Each of these appointments has shaped the direction of the organisation in meaningful ways. The Head of Major Gifts, for example, helped to revitalise LCM's major donor programme, unlocking funding that has since enabled LCM to extend its reach across the capital.

In communications and content, we placed an Evangelism Content Manager and a Content Manager whose work has strengthened LCM's digital storytelling and helped to inspire a wider community of supporters. Good communication is central to any mission-driven organisation, and these hires have made a real difference to how LCM connects with the people who care about its work.

Community and church engagement have also been a focus. The Church Engagement Manager and Community Engagement Manager have both played important roles in deepening LCM's relationships with local churches and expanding its presence at key events within the Christian community, including Spring Harvest and Big Church Day Out. These are not peripheral roles. They sit at the heart of what LCM does.

Behind the scenes, operational hires have been just as important. Roles including an HR Advisor, Financial Accountant, and a Marketing and Systems and Process Transformation Manager have helped LCM run more efficiently, ensuring that the organisation behind the mission is as strong as the mission itself.

Why this kind of recruitment matters

Recruiting for a faith-based organisation requires a particular kind of sensitivity. Candidates need to bring professional excellence, of course, but they also need to understand the environment they are stepping into. The values, the culture, the weight of the work. That is not something you can assess from a CV alone.

At Charisma, we take the time to really understand our candidates as well as our clients. We have built relationships across the faith and charity sectors that allow us to identify people who are not just qualified but genuinely aligned. That alignment is what turns a good hire into a great one.

"By understanding their unique mission and culture, we have consistently identified exceptional candidates who align with their vision and values."

For LCM, that has meant 22 hires who have each contributed something real. Whether that is unlocking funding, shaping communications, strengthening community ties, or keeping the organisation running smoothly, every placement has added genuine value.

What a long-term partnership looks like

One of the things we value most about our relationship with LCM is that it has grown over time. Repeat partnerships like this are not accidental. They are built on consistent delivery, honest communication, and a genuine commitment to getting it right.

When a client keeps coming back, it tells us that we have done more than fill a role. We have understood what they needed, found the right person, and made their lives a little easier in the process. That is what we are here to do.

We are proud to have played a part in helping LCM build a team that continues to transform lives and communities across London, and we look forward to supporting them further as they grow.

If you are looking for a recruitment partner who will take the time to understand your organisation and find people who are truly right for it, we would love to hear from you.
