We are working in partnership with New Theatre Royal Portsmouth, a beautiful 700-seater theatre in the heart of Portsmouth, to recruit a new Chair.The objects of the charity are the encouragement of the arts, the promotion and advancement of performance, arts and learning in drama, opera, music, ballet, painting and sculpture, cinema, literature and the other arts. 

The Trust would like to appoint a new Chair, to help guide the ongoing recovery of the Theatre and lead in creating a sustainable financial base from which they can build future success. In recent months the Trust has dealt with some of their historic financial problems and weathered the national challenge of the pandemic, so now enter an exciting new chapter.We, therefore, seek a Chair to bring the skills necessary to re-build a sustainable theatre which adds to the City’s rich creative and cultural offer. 

The successful Chair will need to demonstrate knowledge or experience in the following:

·        An understanding of the regional and national arts landscape, including the role and strategic objectives of Arts Council England

·        Experience of providing strategic leadership to organisations

·        An understanding of the charitable and/or not-for-profit sectors

·        Knowledge of the performing arts and the contribution they can make to improving people’s quality of life

·        A sound understanding of financial management in the public, charitable or not-for-profit sectors 

The Chair should be able to commit themselves to the work of the Board.Board members will serve on a voluntary basis, though reasonable expenses will be paid.
