National Church Engagement Manager - Church Mission Society

Oxford, United Kingdom
£45,830 plus up to 10% employer pension contribution
Permanent
Closing on 1 December 2026
Lead CMS's Church Engagement team, inspiring churches across the UK to engage in God's global mission and make disciples at the edges.

Church Mission Society (CMS) has been at the forefront of global mission for 225 years. Founded in 1799 by William Wilberforce and other members of the Clapham Sect, CMS today supports hundreds of people and partners in mission across Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East, and trains UK Christians for creative, pioneering mission in Britain. Its purpose is to make disciples of Jesus at the edges – the edges of church, the edges of society and the edges of our comfort zones, seeing lives changed and communities transformed, often in ways no one could have anticipated.

We're looking for a National Church Engagement Manager to help resource that mission. Reporting to the Director of Fundraising and Communications, and leading the Church Engagement Team of four, you'll drive income growth from churches, individual supporters and legacies across England, Scotland and Wales, as part of CMS's ambitious three-year plan to significantly increase income for mission worldwide.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to:
  • Lead a values-led church engagement strategy that grows income through church partnerships, individual giving, legacies and in-memory support.
  • Expand Global Edge Church, inspiring a wider and more diverse range of churches to join God’s work at the edges of society.
  • Strengthen CMS’s relationships across Anglican traditions while building new partnerships with churches, networks and denominations nationwide.
  • Develop high-value relationships with senior church leaders, dioceses and local churches, championing long-term partnership and impact.
  • Lead and inspire the Church Engagement Team, representing CMS nationally and delivering integrated campaigns, events and supporter engagement.
We would love to hear from committed and practising Christians who bring experience in fundraising, marketing or supporter engagement, alongside a genuine passion for the local church and global mission. You'll enjoy building strong relationships, inspiring others to get involved, and communicating confidently with a wide range of audiences. You'll also have experience leading people and using CRM systems, together with a full UK driving licence and a willingness to travel across the UK.

This is a chance to join a Christ-centred community that has been reinvigorated by a fresh vision and the pioneering spirit of its founders, where prayer is central to everything, and every member of staff is valued, supported and encouraged to keep learning and growing.

Why work for Church Mission Society?
  • Up to 10% employer pension contribution (5% core, plus matched additional contributions of up to a further 5%)
  • 36 days' annual leave, including bank holidays
  • Life assurance (4× basic salary)
  • Annual incremental salary increases
  • Enhanced sick pay, maternity, paternity and adoption leave
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme with qualified counsellors
  • Up to three family emergency leave days per year
  • Retreats and resources for prayer life, plus regular wellbeing coffee mornings
  • TOIL for evening and weekend events
  • Hybrid working – CMS House, Oxford (2 days per week), with regular travel across the UK
